Motor
City Beat is a dynamic, high energy, rhythm and blues and
Motown band, ranging from 3 to 10 pieces, depending on the
engagement and budget. Band leader Louis Johnson (piano,
sax, flute & vocals) is joined by “Motown Larry
Walton” on bass, Sandy Love (Guitar, trumpet & vocals)
and Carl Graves on drums. Lead vocalists Lindsey Longmire
and Aivey Lee are frequent guests and we add a horn section
and percussionist, as required. The group is ideal for
dance parties and is also comfortable playing cocktail jazz.

Our
core jazz group features prominent Detroit area bassist
Don Mayberry (& Wil Austin). In addition to jazz standards,
we play jazz versions of pop and rock tunes. Like the R
& B group, we don’t try to sound like anyone other
than ourselves but put our jazz spin on all kinds of things,
like Beatles, Earth Wind and Fire and Gordon Lightfoot.
We add a drummer, female vocalist and/or sax and/or trumpet
to this ensemble, as customers require.
